Get up before the sun does.
In case you don’t already know, I cohost a weekly sales and marketing podcast called Stay Paid. We talk to top producers from a variety of different industries to find out what has driven success for them, and there’s a common thread among almost all of them: they all get up early.
If you’re serious about being achieving success, you need to set your alarm to get up before the sun does. When you do this, you start your day with a win. Plus, since almost no one else will be awake, you’ll get that extra time to get things done without a ton of distractions.
Oh, and forget the snooze button. When you let your alarm go off twice, you’re already losing control of your day. Get up with your alarm and get moving.
Start with a daily devotion.
A lot of people are tempted to get up and immediately start working out or getting ready for work. When you do this, you’re missing out on an amazing opportunity to work on your mind-set for the day ahead.
Some people meditate, while others write in a journal or express gratitude. What you do isn’t as important as why you’re doing it. In short, you need to find a way to focus your mind for the hard work that lies ahead.
This can be really tough to do when you’re not used to getting up before the sun does. You’re naturally going to be tired, and you could just as easily fall asleep while you’re trying to meditate. Prevent this from happening by jumping into a cold shower or grabbing a cup of coffee. Do your focus for the day. Then, get moving physically.
Feed your body.
When I say “feed your body,” I mean this in two ways. The first is to get up and do some physical activity. When you get at least 30 minutes of exercise early in the morning, you’re signaling to your body that it’s time to wake up. You’re also making yourself more alert and better equipped to handle whatever the day throws at you.
I always look at my daily agenda the night before, but it’s never a bad idea to take a second look in the morning. After you do this, ask yourself, “What’s the best outcome for today? How can I make today count?” Then, take action to make it happen.
And that’s it! Over time, you’ll find the specific routines that work best for you, but the principles remain the same.
Wake up early. Feed your mind, body, and spirit. Rinse and repeat. Do these things, and you’ll start to see a real difference in what you can accomplish on a daily basis.
